INSURANCE

Taking insurance for me is a A STRATEGIC COMPROMISE.

I hold an anti-carceral, liberatory approach to therapy, which means I actively work to reduce harm, challenge oppressive systems, and support true healing outside of punitive models. I also recognize that mental health care is deeply entangled in a for-profit managed care system that prioritizes cost over people.

While I critically engage with this reality, I choose to take insurance because accessibility matters. Therapy should not be a privilege reserved for those who can afford to pay out of pocket. At this time, I prioritize making good, trauma informed, justice-oriented therapy available to those who might otherwise be excluded—while also working against the system from within.

By navigating and challenging its limitations, I strive to make care more accessible while continuing to push for long-term systemic change.

ALL OF THAT BEING SAID

Some of growgood psychology’s services in San Diego & California may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan if you have Aetna, UHC/OPTUM, Anthem or TRICARE/TRIWEST.

It is your responsibility to know your coverage. We will check your benefits prior to scheduling, however, ultimately it is your responsibility to be aware of your plan’s benefits and out of pocket costs, not ours. Any sessions not covered by your insurance will be your financial responsibility. If you are using insurance, please be advised that your insurance company may have access to your Protected Health Information (PHI), treatment status & progress and you will be given a Mental Health Diagnosis from the DSM-V .

If you do not have Aetna, UHC/OPTUM, Anthem or TRICARE/TRIWEST- we can provide you with a Superbill at the end of every month that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

We collect the session rate at the time of session

If you would like to see if you have out of network benefits for potential reimbursement:

Call the behavioral/mental health number on the back of your insurance card and wait for the prompt for benefits. When speaking with a representative, ask:

  • Do I have Out of Network mental health benefits? (A PPO plan has Out of Network Benefits, an HMO plan does not)

  • What are the benefits for standard Out of Network outpatient individual therapy session in an office setting?

  • What is my Out of Network deductible? How much have I met?

  • Do I need to meet that prior to insurance covering a session?

  • Do I have a co-pay per session or a co-insurance percentage?

  • What is my Out of Network out of pocket max? How much have I met?

REDUCED/LOW COST FEE

Reduced fee services are available. Sliding scale fee agreements are limited and decided on a case by case basis for individuals who have a low income household or are going through a temporary financial struggle.

GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE DISCLOSURE

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” (GFE) of expected charges. The GFE shows the costs of items and services that are reasonably expected for services provided by Woven. The estimate is based on information known at the time the estimate was created. It does not take into account any reimbursement that you may receive as a result of out of network benefits.

The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur.

If you are billed for more than this Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.

You may contact Dr. Mae Casanova, Clinical Director of growgood psychology to let her know the billed charges are higher than the Good Faith Estimate.
